Management Development is concerned with improving the performance of managers in their duties, preparing them to take on greater responsibilities in the future and also developing their leadership skills as well. A systematic approach to management development is necessary to meet the needs of organizations for the talented managers they require and because the increasingly onerous demands made on managers mean that they have to possess a wider range of developed skills than ever before.
The objective of management development is to find the ways in which the company can produce, mainly from within, a supply of managers better equipped for their jobs at all levels.
Formal approaches to management development consist of processes and event that are planned and provided by the organization. These should be based on the identification of Development needs.

02. To ensure the availability of qualified managerial manpower
03. To ensure the managerial capability
04. To aid and encouraging and achieving self-development and self confidence
05. To provide opportunities for managers to upgrade their knowledge and skills

Also this is very useful to understand the behaviors of the people in changing socio cultural environment and to meet the needs of the customers.
